Welcome to our unique, converted 17th Century barn in the heart of the Cotswolds.
Converted in 1946 from a 17th Century Cotswolds stone barn, the hall has been extensively renovated over the last 15 years. It now provides a versatile space, a modern kitchen and state-of-the-art facilities for the disabled.
As well as playing host to musical and theatrical events, private parties, office parties, wedding receptions, Christmas get-togethers, and coffee mornings, the hall is the venue of choice for several organisations including The Yoga Group, Pilates classes, the Brownies, Table Tennis, Puppy Training Classes and Scalextric clubs. And, from time to time, it doubles up as a Polling Station.
The Main Hall and the first floor Parker Room are both available to hire.
The Main Hall is a large, flexible space, flooded with natural light. Its beautiful vaulted ceiling and exposed beams reference the hall's historical roots. It adjoins a large pre function space and a well-equipped kitchen with bar servery.
The Parker Room is located on the first floor of the hall. Accessible via stairs or stair lift, the room is ideal for both business events and private occasions. It is adjoined by a storage room and a small servery which is perfect for preparing tea, coffee, snacks and light meals.

Ramsden Memorial Hall
Ramsden lies just off the B4022, some 20 miles north of Oxford, 4 miles north of Witney and 3 miles south of Charlbury.

There is unrestricted on-street parking throughout the village. There are also several off-road spaces outside the church, which is just 50 metres away.
Several local taxi services can collect/drop off from Oxford airport, local railway stations as well as the centre of Witney.
The nearest railway station is in Charlbury, some 3 miles away, which provides regular links to Oxford, London and further afield.
A local bus service, the X9 is provided by Pulhams Coaches and connects Chipping Norton / Chadlington/ Spelsbury / Charlbury/ Finstock / Ramsden / Hailey and Witney.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Is there car parking available?
Yes, there is. There are up to six off road spaces outside the church (50 metres away) as well as extensive on road parking throughout the village which is unrestricted.
How is the Memorial Hall configured?
We have an entrance lobby and foyer which gives direct access to the Main Hall, off which is a small storage area. There are lavatories on the ground floor for ladies, gentlemen and disabled guests. A diagram of the hall layout can be found on the Facilities page.
On the first floor there is a small board room (The Parker Room ) which seats approximately 18 people around one long table. It has an adjoining room and a small sere very area.
Can we have access to a kitchen?
Yes. There is a large kitchen on the ground floor and a small servery (with a large warming oven) on the first floor. Both are well-equipped and can be used to serve tea/coffee, drinks or full meals.
You are welcome to bring in your own caterers or we will be happy to supply you with a list of recommended catering companies.
Can I visit the hall before I book to see if it’s suitable?
Absolutely. Just call or e-mail Janet Vinnicombe, our Hall Manager (contact details above) who will be pleased to show you around at a time that suits.
Is there a stage and sound equipment?
No. However the hall does have a public entertainment licence and Performing Rights permit. PA equipment would need to be hired and we will be happy to put you in touch with local companies who specialise in that area.
What AV equipment do you have?
In our Parker Room/Business Centre, we have a flat screen plasma TV monitor which can be used to link to a laptop (via HDMI or VGA), to provide large screen projection. Your laptop and the Wi-Fi will enable you to use this facility for video conferencing and Skype.
What are your opening hours?
We have no set opening hours. However, our hall manager will open and close the hall on those days that it is booked.

Can I bring my own alcohol?
Yes, you can. We have a full licence, so you can even charge for drinks - if you need to.
Is cleaning included?
Generally, No. And it is your responsibility to ensure that the space you have booked, including the kitchens and lavatories are thoroughly cleaned either before you depart or (by arrangement) on the following day.
If you don't want to be responsible for cleaning, please advise us when booking and we will provide you with a quote for professional cleaners to come in after your event.
Is there a curfew?
As Ramsden is a quiet residential village, we would ask all hirers to cease loud music by 11.00 pm and vacate the building by midnight.
Please leave quietly and avoid the slamming of car doors as this can disturb the old folk!
Do you have nappy changing facilities?
Yes, we do. In the gender-neutral disabled facilities on the ground floor.
After your event, you will receive a short, electronic survey in which we will invite you to comment about your experience in Ramsden's Memorial Hall.
Any comments or suggestions about how we can improve will be much appreciated.
Is there disabled access?
Yes. There is level access to the lobby, reception area and main hall.
For those booking The Parker Room on the first floor, there is a stair lift available.
Are dogs allowed?
Guide Dogs, Assistance Dogs and well-behaved dogs who are accompanied by a responsible adult, are always welcome.
Water and dog biscuits can be made available, on request!
Can I get married or enter a civil partnership at the hall?
In future, Yes.
The Ramsden Memorial Hall has plans to obtain a marriage licence and in future will be happy to arrange both the ceremony and the reception for you.

Do you have Wi-Fi ?
Wi-Fi is available throughout the building and we will advise you of the access code when you arrive.
When do I have to pay?
Before you book, you will receive a written quotation from our hall manager, probably by e mail. This will set out the costs of rental, our terms & Conditions and when monies are due.
A non-refundable deposit, equal to one third of the hire cost, is required at the time of booking with the full balance due at least two weeks prior to the event.

On booking, our hall manager will provide you with a document setting out all the terms and conditions connected with hall hiring.

How do I pay?
You can pay by cheque or direct bank transfer. Your invoice will show who to pay, the address to which cheques should be sent and details of our bank account.
How do I get into the hall?
In most cases our hall manager will have opened the hall prior to your arrival. On the rare occasions that this proves impossible, you will be advised of an entry code which you can key in at the front door.
What insurance do I need?
The hall is fully insured, including public liability cover of up to £10m.
If you are bringing specialist equipment into the hall, this will need to be insured separately and we would ask you to discuss this with our hall manager and/or your insurance company.
What do I do with rubbish?
We would ask you to remove all rubbish and food waste after your event.
Do I get a discount if I live in the village of Ramsden?
Yes. A discount may be available. Although this is subject to availability and at our discretion.
Proof of permanent residency will be required.
Do you provide tables, chairs, table cloths, cutlery and crockery?
Yes we do. Rectangular tables (of various sizes) are provided free of charge for all functions, as are chairs and table cloths.
Other items are subject to availability and appropriate charges will be included in your quotation letter.
