Ramsden Apple Pressing Day

  • Ramsden Memorial Hall High Street, Ramsden OX7 3AU United Kingdom (map)

The inaugural Apple Pressing Day, hosted at Ramsden Memorial Hall by the "Ramsden Cider Club". Transform your surplus apple crop into apple juice, delicious either fresh, pasteurised or turned into cider. The Club has acquired a powerful electric 'scratter', to convert the apples into 'pomace' (or apple pulp) which is processed in the press to produce up to a gallon of juice each time. The dry pomace makes excellent compost or pig-feed.

You can bring your apples and clean empty screw-top bottles, process them and take away the juice and dry pulp (in your own container). Instructions on a simple home pasteurisation process will be available. It's best to keep varieties separate, so that you can make comparisons and blends. The apples don't have to be perfect and if you don't have any apples, there will hopefully be spare fruit available, from those with a surplus. Donations of juice and/or cash to help cover the equipment costs and maintenance would be welcomed.
